11 June 2010

A number of major sporting events are on this weekend from the 2010 World Cup to Jet Around Cayman. However the truly sporty individuals should check out a family friendly event for the Queen’s Birthday holiday.

The Cayman Islands Triathlon Association is pleased to announce its Try-this-Tri event, sponsored by Solomon Harris. Four events will take place during the early morning hours catering to all level of athletes.

At 6.30am is the first sprint triathlon with an 800m swim, 12 mile bike ride and three mile run. At 8am comes the super tri with two heats (one for those 15 years-old and older and a second for those 14 years of age and younger). Both heats will feature a 400m swim, three mile bike run and a one and a half mile run. A kids triathlon occurs at 9.30am for those age five and older featuring a 50m swim, half mile bike ride and a one fifth mile run. For those age four and younger is the tykes dash at 10am consisting of a run across the soccer pitch at 10am.

All swimming takes place in the Camana Bay pool. Kids 17 and younger will race entirely on Camana Bay property. Teams are welcome and all participants receive refreshments and the chance to win one of a number of random prizes.

Registration is on Friday from 4pm to 6pm and Saturday from 8am to 10am at Cafe del Sol in Camana Bay.
