Webb stays put

Former Chelsea and QPR defender David Webb was here last November and said he intended to spend most of his year in the Cayman Islands.

Well it won’t be soon, it appears, because Webb has just been appointed assistant manager of Southend United, a club he has managed four times previously.

Webb, 63, takes over from Paul Brush who was sacked after Saturday’s 3-0 loss at Hartlepool in the League One game.

Webb’s first game alongside manager Steve Tilson is tomorrow against fellow strugglers Exeter City at home. Southend are struggling financially with massive debts to the Inland Revenue.
