H2Only flowing in Butterfield league
12 March 10

The Butterfield Co-ed flag football league continued last weekend with more interesting and competitive games at the TE McField stadium in George Town.

In the first game of the night, H2Only took control of the west division with a solid 34-20 win over Butterfield.

Both teams came off impressive wins the week before but this time around Butterfield seemed to be a little out of the loop as they struggled on both sides of the ball in the first half. Butterfield made a strong second half push with Robbie DaCosta leading the charge passing a couple of TDs to David Meyerhoff and Ellen Downey but H2Only’s lead was too much to overcome.

H2Only was led by Perry Levy’s balanced performance of two received touchdowns, two interceptions and one defensive touchdown.  Kevin Solomon threw three touchdown passes and Will Peguero chipped in with one received touchdown and one interception of his own.

Burger King bounced back from last week’s disappointing loss with a stellar 39-19 win over Cayman Auto in the second game of the night.

Gary Rutty once again led the charge with an explosive six TD performance. The deep ball was once again his preferred method of attacking the opposition as the one on one matchups favoured Burger King’s receivers. Sean Moyle, along with the potent husband and wife combination of Ryan and Betsy Smith, were too much for Cayman Auto to handle.

For Cayman Auto, Jessica Pawlik put in another solid outing with a couple of TD passes. Simon Rivers was the only other bright spot chipping in with his impressive three touchdown performance.

The third game of the night featured an Ogier shutout over JET Nightclub 41-0. Powerhouse Christina McTaggart threw a whopping six TDs and four extra point conversions.

Jeffery Wight, Brad Connolly and Rhys Ebanks each contributed with a number of TDs. Defensively, Annice Callaghan put in a stellar performance with a number of tackles and a timely interception.

For JET Nightclub, there were not a lot of positive things to report. They managed to put one or two solid drives together that were stalled by miscues and turnovers.

Defensively Candace Ebanks had an interception but its back to the drawing board for the up and coming JET Nightclub squad.

In the night capper, Maples dominated McAlpine 42-20. Richard Campbell of Maples had a spectacular night passing four TDs and rushing for another.

Defensively, it was Rupert Whittaker who led the charge with two game changing interceptions. Joni Ebanks was the standout female chipping in with two received touchdowns.

For McAlpine, a solid performance was put in by QB James Forbes who threw three touchdown passes, one each to Kenrick Roach, Hilton Dixon and Lisa Bird.

It is quite evident that if McAlpine intends on clinching a playoff berth, they need to shore up the defensive side of the ball quickly. Next up for McAlpine are the Hurricanes whilst Maples face the Titans.

Other final scores for the night were: Doghouse destroyed NCB homes 39-0. Hurricanes beat the Titans 12-6. Congratulations to the Pizza Hut Players of the Week: Perry Levy of H2Only and Christina McTaggart of Ogier.

Friday’s games start at 6:30pm at the T.E. McField Field (GT Primary).
