Crighton silence Digicel
12 March 2010

Crighton Properties scored five runs in the third inning to take the lead for good and defeat Digicel 9-5 in both teams’ Single-A opener last Friday.

Deandre Thomas, Jaden Downey, Mary Grace and Justin Derrick all scored runs in the third for Crighton, who also had first-inning homers from Mario Ebanks and Zion Coe.

Digicel tied the game 2-2 in the first behind runs scored by Reese Hoeksma and Sean Guitard, who also tripled and scored in the third. Ethan Hydes added an RBI double for Digicel.

Mark Chow threw two innings of one-hit ball for his second win of the season as Island Paving remained undefeated in Single-A with a 10-4 victory over Bodden Beverages.

Island Paving broke open a tight game with five runs in the fourth inning behind great base-running by Zach Bodden, Davin Gallager, Edward Thompson, Jesse Jackson and Dane Muspratt.

The defensive plays of the game belonged to second baseman Jonah Pierre and shortstop Jathan Bodden, who showed his range by stopping a grounder and throwing to third.

Global Captive Management took an early lead and never looked back to defeat Deloitte 15-8 in an Opening Day Pony Division game last Saturday. Zackary Franklin, Max Hydes, Kai Robinson and rookie Uton Whittaker all homered for GCM, who scored seven runs in the first inning and six in the third. Jack McGregor and Whittaker led a splendid GCM defensive effort throughout the game.

In other Opening Day Pony League action, Cayman Growers scored five runs in the first inning and seven in the third for a 13-3 win over Esso. Despite being a young and inexperienced team, Esso performed well at the plate and in the field. Its notable achievements included a double by Shamar Gooden, strong baserunning by Calum Lindsay and superb fielding by second baseman and shortstop “Bing” Booker.

Lauren Brown, Dayger Martinez and Rowan McLean all had extra-base hits to lead Grand Old House over Coldwell Banker 7-6 in a Pony League game. Every batter reached base at least once for Grand Old House, and several GOH players displayed superb sportsmanship throughout the game.

Shawn Lansdell and Cameron Walters hit back-to-back homers for Coldwell Banker in the second inning and Matthew Dube added a first-inning RBI triple. Brad Lansdell played well defensively at first base.
