Indoor volleyball came to a close in West Bay over the weekend.

After many weeks of play at the John A Cumber primary school hall the sport saw its final match on Saturday night.

Since late January the district league, put on by the Department of Sports and the West Bay Sports Committee, has drawn participants of all ages.

Every Saturday the school hall was packed with the young and young at heart eager to play and have wholesome fellowship.

Last Saturday was no different as the teams wrapped up its last week. As always the youth league drew a sizeable crowd of adolescents and adults and brought out a lot of interesting stories and people.

Three noteworthy young men are Israel Carrazana, Shaquille Roberts and Danny Ebanks. Both Carrazana and Roberts are youth players while Ebanks is a volunteer referee and adult player.

Carrazana, 11, plays for the Incredibles in the youth league. The young man says his favourite book is the Hardy Boys and his favourite movie is Percy Jackson.

He is pleased about the league saying “It’s good for young kid and keeps them out of trouble.”

Roberts meanwhile is just 10 years old and plays for the Warriors youth team. Outside of playing, his favourite book to read is Oliver Twist.

The cheerful youngster clearly likes more than a few good laughs as his favourite move is Kicking and Screaming. He is enjoying himself within the league saying simply “It’s so much fun.”

Ebanks, featured previously in these pages, is a youth league referee. His favourite movie is the Bruce Lee classic Enter The Dragon. The West Bayer also plays for the Matadors adult team and says the league has a great impact on the community.

“It’s very fun and positive and a great communication tool for kids and adults.”

In all three teams competed in the youth league. As of last Monday the Warriors were top of the league at 4-3 with 11 points. The Incredibles (3-3 with nine points) and the Star Ballers (2-4 with eight points) were not far behind.

The adult league features six teams. Future SC is tied for the league lead with West Bay Spikers and Scholars SC ahead of North West Pointers, Above The Net and the Matadors.
