Rooney must stay fit for World Cup

Manchester United could jump into the Premiership’s top spot over Chelsea tomorrow if they beat Wolves away.

Wayne Rooney is one of the world’s best strikers at the moment and he is set to shine against a Wolves side struggling for survival in the top tier.

Rooney has banged in 23 Premiership goals so far, four more than Chelsea’s talisman Didier Drogba. England fans are hoping that Rooney stays healthy in the coming months with the World Cup finals only three months away.

Such is the dearth of quality international strikers in England that Michael Owen still fancies his chances of making the trip.

Jermain Defoe didn’t quite make the last England World Cup squad but on current form could book his place as the season climaxes having scored 16 for Spurs.

Chelsea don’t have a game and it’s just as well on current form and considering all the turbulence caused by the personal indiscretions of John Terry and Ashley Cole.

Arsenal have an easy home game against Burnley who have had little success on the road this season. Arsenal are third and there is no sign yet of them sagging which is what normally happens around this time because of injuries, suspensions and fatigue.

West Ham are still not completely safe but if they can beat fellow strugglers Bolton at home, it will lift confidence at Upton Park as the club tries to restore order after years of financial uncertainty.

After recent wins against Chelsea and Manchester United, Everton’s indifferent form is over and they are relishing the visit of Hull City on Monday.

Liverpool too have improved enough for critics to back off laying into Rafa Benitez and they should have no trouble at Wigan.
