Young musicians will put on a special show for Haitian orphans next week at Pedro Castle.

Music for Orphans takes place on Thursday 11 March. The evening of music kicks off at 6.30pm, with tickets including a beverage and hors d’oeuvres from Ristorante Pappagallo. It is perfect for an after-work interlude and not too late for early bedtimes.

The funds raised from ticket sales and donations will go to God’s Littlest Angels, a non-profit Christian ministry that runs a Haitian orphanage. Operating since 1994 it organises international adoptions and helps more than 200 children attend school through its school sponsorship programme.

“It’s an opportunity for students to do something for children by partnering with a specific charity,” said organiser and music teacher Louise Price.

“The evening will feature 22 soloists and 14 ensembles, we have so many talented young musicians here, and it is a great opportunity for them to have a chance to perform while doing good for other children.”

She said the hope is that the event while raising funds will be a showcase for younger players to watch older performers who can inspire them.

Along with performances from musicians aged 7 to 17 including 2008 Young Musician of the Year Michael Testori, and Rising Stars Melanie Ebanks, Chantal Martin, Francella Martin, Kenroy Millwood, Beneil Miller and Zoey Robinson.

The evening will also feature a short performance from local concert pianist Glen Inanga, and music from local band Undiscovered.

“It’s a children’s event, it is so nice to see something positive coming out of our youth,” said Ms Price.

“It’s all about the children, both here and in Haiti.”

Tickets are $50 and $30 for children 12 and younger. For more information call 926-6660. Visit glahaiti.org for more information on God’s Littlest Angels.
