West Bay league fosters good vibes
26 February 2010

Indoor volleyball is going strong in West Bay.

Thanks to the Department of Sports and the West Bay Sports Committee the league is drawing participants of all ages.

Every Saturday the John A Cumber primary school hall is packed with the young and young at heart eager to play and have wholesome fellowship.

Last Saturday was no different as the teams finished another week of play. The youth league drew much attention from adolescents, teens and adults.

Three noteworthy females are Krista Ebanks, Deandra Ebanks and Jackie Bodden. Both of the Ebanks girls are youth players while Bodden is a volunteer referee.

Krista, 13, plays for the Incredibles in the youth league and Scholars SC in the adult league.

The outgoing youngster says her favourite book is Twilight and New Moon. She also loves to say “I’m connected, wow!” and she is ecstatic about the league saying “I just love it!”

Deandra meanwhile is 11 and plays for the Warriors youth team. Outside of playing, her favourite book to read is “Tales of a 12th Grader.”

She takes the scriptural truth of “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” to heart and is enjoying herself within the league.

“I am having a good time and I want everyone to come out and have a good time as well,” Ebanks stated.

Bodden is a youth league referee, primarily for Warriors and Star Ballers games. Her favourite book is the Bible. The mature West Bayer encouraged the public to see the league in motion.

“So far the volleyball league has been successful and continues to grow,” Bodden said. “I encourage more parents and children to come out and participate as it is a great experience for everyone.”

In all three teams compete in the youth league. Coming into this week the Warriors were top of the league with the Incredibles and the Star Ballers close on their heels.

The adult league has six teams. Future SC is tied for the league lead with West Bay Spikers and Scholars SC ahead of North West Pointers, Above The Net and the Matadors.

League matches resume again tomorrow from 6:30pm at the school hall. The public is welcome and encouraged to come out and watch the games.
