Oratorical contest deadline tomorrow

Public speakers take note: The deadline for the submission of entries for the Optimist Club of George Town’s 2009/2010 Oratorical Contest is tomorrow, Saturday, 27 February, at the St. George's Anglican Church Hall from 10am - 2pm. 

The contest will be taking place on 20 March at the Harquail Theatre, and this year’s topic is “Cyber Communication: Progress or Problem” where speakers will be vying for $2,000 in prize money. The two first place winners will be able to move on to the Caribbean finals in April.

Contestants are required to speak for four to five minutes. The Oratorical Contest is open to students younger than 16 as of 31 December.  

Students who wish to participate are required to provide:

A completed application form – printed with contact details

Copy of birth certificate

Completed publicity consent form signed by parent or legal guardian

Typed copy of speech 

An independent panel of judges will determine the winners. The judges will pay special attention to speech content, delivery, and poise.
