Generous donors have given $8,600 to the children of George Town Primary School to help pay for lunches, breakfasts and uniforms.

The Lean on Me Committee organised the fundraising drive and handed over a cheque to school officials on Sunday afternoon.

Principal Marie Martin said the money could not have come at a better time.

“We want to thank the Lean on Me Committee for doing this. It comes at a time when everybody is feeling the economic crunch.

“The money will go towards lunches and breakfasts and school uniforms for families in need,” she said.

Derri Lee, chairwoman of the Lean of Me Committee, said an anonymous donor had given $5,000 and a second anonymous donor gave $1,000. The Water Authority donated $2,600.
