YCLA 2010: This Saturday night

Cayman's top business and community leaders are to celebrate and honour young Caymanians at the 2010 YCLA at The Ritz-Carlton tomorrow (Saturday, 20 February).

The live telecast portion of the evening will begin promptly at 7pm and run approximately one hour.  During the one hour presentation, the five finalists will be showcased.  As with previous years, the Recipient of the YCLA will be announced at the end of the telecast.

Collin N. Anglin

Collin is the husband of Dionne Anglin. He lives in West Bay

He is the Acting Director of Sports with the Cayman Islands Department of Sports, and has worked as a tutor for inner city children in Wilmington, North Carolina.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sports Management from Florida International University.  He also has certification for F.I.B.A. Level 1 Basketball Coaching, and Caribbean Community Coaching Program.  He is enrolled at United States Sports Academy studying for a Masters of Science degree.  

Collin is chairman of C.I.B.A. Competitions Committee and organises basketball leagues for children and adults.

He coaches at least one youth and one women's team annually. He has been a volunteer coach since the age of 16. He has represented the Cayman Islands in Basketball for the past 16 years and captained the National Men's Basketball team (2003-2009).

He also enjoys poetry, reading and playing the piano.

He wants to positively impact the lives of persons and communities by engaging in sporting activities, which inspire Cayman's youth, and improve their health.

Krishan Welcome

Krishan is from Bodden Town.

She is an attorney at Walkers where she works in the Finance Department. 

Krishan has Masters of Law in International Commercial Law from the University of Nottingham and received her Bachelor’s of Law in Law and Politics at the University of Birmingham.  Krishan was called to the Bar in England and Wales (2003), the Cayman Islands (2005) and the British Virgin Islands (2006).

In 2008 she was appointed as a director of the Health Services Authority and also served as a member of the UCCI Board of Governors.  She has also been involved with the Young Business and Professional Women’s Club Stalking and Sexual Harassment Task Force as a Research Sub-Committee Head. 

She has been an active member of Webster Memorial United Church since 1994, where she teaches elementary Sunday School and vacation Bible School classes, and where she has launched a youth group programme for teenagers.  In an effort to help the less fortunate, she volunteers with the Cayman Islands Reading Aides Programme, and has tutored inmates at Northward Prison. 

She is an avid reader and enjoys various sporting activities.  Krishan has also represented the Cayman Islands internationally as the captain of the Cayman Islands National Women's Football Team (various tournaments, including 2007 Olympic Qualifiers) and as vice captain of the Cayman Islands National Netball Team (1999 World Championships in New Zealand an 2003 World Championships in Jamaica).  She is also a member of the Women's Football Committee.

Felix  A. G. Manzanares

Felix is married to Wendy Manzanares and the father of Soleya and Nicolai Manzanares.  He resides lives in Bodden Town.

Felix is the Director of Youth Ministries at the Church of God Chapel where he has worked as a Youth Pastor for the last four years.  Prior to his current employment, he worked in the Banking Industry for several years. After becoming a Christian in April 2006 he realised he had another calling. He went on to study theology at the International Seminary where he received a diploma in Practical Theology in 2007, and a diploma in Practical Theology Advanced Level in 2008.  He is studying for a degree in Social Studies at UCCI.

Felix became involved with the youth of Grand Cayman at a young age, working both for the National Drug Council as a Youth Project Officer during his year 11 work experience programme and with the Department of Youth and Sports with their weekly radio show Youth Flex, while at High School.  Not only involved with the youth, Felix often spends time visiting the elderly, and those who are in prison. 

He was appointed to the CAYS Foundation Board in 2008, and the Cayman Islands Youth Commission in 2009.

He enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.

Melanie McLaughlin

Melanie is the mother of Jamaal, who she is raising with Peter Williams, her partner of 12 years.   She is from West Bay but lives in George Town.

Melanie works for HSBC Bank (Cayman) Limited, where she is Head of Legal Services. Previously, Melanie worked for the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority, where she served as Legal Counsel.

Melanie holds a Bachelor of Law from the University of Liverpool and completed her professional qualifications at the College of Law, in London, United Kingdom.

She was appointed as a member of the Human Rights Committee in 2005 and chaired the HRC Constitutional Reform Working Group.  She dedicated herself to this particular cause to ensure that our children, the mentally and physically disabled, and the elderly, in particular, are afforded basic human rights.

  Melanie is also a Director of the Estella Scott-Roberts Foundation, and has recently accepted the role of Vice-Chair to the Foundation.  She is currently also Chair of Labour Tribunal, having been appointed by Cabinet in 2009.

Melanie also mentors and volunteers across local schools and community organizations.  She attends Cayman Islands Baptist Church with her son, Dequann and her fiancée.

  Melanie is a member of the National Womens’ Volleyball team, and has represented her country in regional and international competition.

Aside from her community work, Melanie enjoys volleyball, football, writing, music, art and design.

Tammy Ebanks Bishop

Tammy is the Senior Policy Advisor for Gender Affairs Cayman Islands Government in a post she has been in for nearly two years.  She is also a Cabinet Appointed Member of the 2010 Census Advisory Committee.  Previously, she was employed at the Women's Resource Centre for a decade, where she was the first person hired as a Programme Officer, eventually rising to the position of Director.  She has also worked at the Young Women's Christian Association, where she provided case management services, and organised educational presentations for residents of a low income housing project in Jacksonville, Florida.  

Tammy holds a Bachelor of the Arts in Sociology with a minor in English Literature from the University of North Florida.  She also received a diploma in Gender and Development Studies from the University of the West Indies.

She was a member of the former Cayman Islands Human Rights Committee, and serves as a Director for the Estella Scott-Roberts Foundation.

She was recently nominated for the Heroes Among Us award.  She has worked extensively in the community advocating for gender equality and women's empowerment, improved human rights, and safety for children.

Tammy has been involved in local and regional social science research projects and presented papers at various regional and local conferences.  Her many years of experience in Human Services have prepared her for a strong role of leadership in the community.

In her free time, Tammy enjoys her nine-year-old son Ethan, creative writing, reading, travelling, and yoga. She lives in North Side.
