Saints fans felt blessed by their divine triumph

Super Bowl parties around Cayman had everyone tuned in until the final moments for once. Usually, the hot favourites are so in control at the end that it becomes an anti-climax.

Not this time with the New Orleans Saints sealing their 31-17 victory over Peyton Manning’s Indianapolis Colts well into the fourth quarter.

Flag footballer Cindy Blekaitis watched at a friend’s house.”I loved it,” she said. “I’m a sucker for those sort of Super Bowls where the underdogs win. It was really touching to see Brees with his baby son at the end. The Saints had never even been in a Super Bowl so it was monumental to win it.”

Radio Cayman sports presenter Nikolai Hill watched the big match at Treasure Island with the rest of the flag football association community.

“It was a great party, the best,” he said. “It was a good game and didn’t really surprise me that the Saints won because that’s football, anything can happen.”

There were screens all over the Dog House restaurant in Grand Harbour. Former sports minister Alden McLauglin was there. “The Saints are my team and I knew they were going to win,” he claimed. “That’s because my son told me so!”
